What’s New for You at the Morgan Library

The Morgan Library and Museum opens to the public on April 29. And when it does, visitors can enjoy double the exhibition space, two restaurants, and a concert hall. But that’s not all. The admission price has gone up to $12 from $8.
What will be done with the proceeds? The income will help offset increased costs of operating the larger space. One thing the proceeds don’t have to pay for is the cost of the renovation. The museum announced this week that it has raised $106 million, the final bill for the renovation and expansion. It’s also raised $13.5 million for the endowment. And with the building once again operational, reaching the $25 million goal just got a lot easier.
The new library has all the bells and whistles of a 21st-century museum. Gone is the much-loved “doughnut” desk that used to house greeters. In its place is a sleek, cherry wood console. One upgrade that might go unnoticed until the cold weather returns is the coat check. The new coat mover – which has at least three times the capacity as the old version – enables its operator to retrieve coats by punching in the coat check number.
