Waltzing Dignitaries & Debs
At the Viennese Opera Ball Friday, diplomats, a prince, and a baroness processed; cadets carried the colors, and couples danced the waltz. The Waldorf-Astoria’s Grand Ballroom seems destined for such pageantry, though it rarely sees it these days.
Guests showed the utmost respect. “It is important to uphold tradition, because you are also upholding a sense of mystery and magic,” Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, an emcee with the Today Show’s Ann Curry, said.
Ticket proceeds raised $300,000 for SOS Children’s Villages USA, which creates homes for orphaned and abandoned children in 132 countries. More funds will be raised through February 6 in an auction at www.charitybuzz.com.

Medical facilities on the East Side are spiffing up. The Falk family recently celebrated their $4.5 million gift to Lenox Hill Hospital, while two major donors to Weill Cornell Medical College had a building named after them Friday at a ceremony attended by Mayor Bloomberg.
