EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Vince Carter scored 24 points and Jason Kidd added 16,leading the Nets over the Milwaukee Bucks 94-79 last night.
The win was the 13th in 14 home games for the Nets. The game was played in front of about 5,000 fans, who braved the record storm that dropped 2 feet of snow in Northern New Jersey.
Center Nenad Krstic was ejected for a scuffle with Milwaukee’s Jamaal Magloire just before halftime, but the Nets got 16 points off the bench from 39-year-old Clifford Robinson and 10 from reserve Scott Padgett.
Michael Redd paced Milwaukee with 27 points, while T.J.Ford added 18.
The Nets grabbed the lead in the first quarter and never looked back, avenging a 110-96 loss to the Bucks at home on opening night. The Bucks appeared somewhat lackluster after traveling to New Jersey in the snow after beating Charlotte 99-93 in Milwaukee on Saturday night and arriving in the early morning hours yesterday.
The loss was the Bucks’ first this season against an Atlantic Division team. They had won their previous nine games.
The teams exchanged the lead six times in the first quarter before the Nets took command behind Kidd, who had 10 points in the quarter. Kidd’s drive right at Ford gave the Nets a 12-11 lead that they held for the remainder of the half.
Robinson, who moved into the top 10 in games played with 1,297, had a breakaway slam with 20 seconds left that gave the Nets a 26-20 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Nets went on an 11-0 run over a 3:21 span, increasing their lead to 41-25. Rookie Antoine Wright capped the run with an alley-oop slam off a pass from Carter. Milwaukee countered with seven straight points from Redd to pull the Bucks within nine with 5:23 left, but the Nets maintained control for the remainder of the quarter and led 55-43 at the half.
The Nets missed their first nine shots in the third quarter and Milwaukee cut the lead to 57-52, but the Nets outscored the Bucks 12-5 over the final 5:08 to take a 72-59 lead into the final period.
