EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Alexander Mogilny scored the game winner with 32 seconds remaining, and Brian Gionta extended his goal-scoring streak to five games in the New Jersey Devils’ 3-2 victory over the Boston Bruins last night.
With the game seemingly headed to overtime, John Madden won a face-off in the Bruins end from Joe Thornton and drew the puck back to Mogilny, who whipped a shot past Andrew Raycroft.
It was a measure of revenge for Mogilny, who took a hard hit from Boston defenseman Nick Boynton earlier in the period and still had a trickle of blood coming from his nose as he scored the winner.
Jay Pandolfo had the other New Jersey goal and Martin Brodeur made 21 saves as the Devils won their third straight game and sixth in the last eight.
Patrice Bergeron and Sergei Samsonsov scored for the Bruins, who lost their third straight and ninth in 10 games.
Bergeron scored the only goal of the first period, on a power play at 8:49. Samsonov stretched the Bruins’ lead to 2-0 only 30 seconds into the second period, beating Brodeur after Devils defenseman Richard Matvichuk knocked Thornton into the Devils’ goalie.
The Devils out shot the Bruins 17-4 the rest of the period, and finally broke through against Raycroft when Gionta scored at 13:14. It was his team-leading 16th goal of the season, and 11th in the last 12 games.
New Jersey pulled even 5:27 into the third period as Pandolfo knocked in the rebound of Madden’s shot past Raycroft.

ISLANDERS FALL TO FLYERS Simon Gagne scored his NHL-leading 22nd and 23rd goals – including the winner with 7:13 left – and the Philadelphia Flyers rallied to beat the Islanders 4-3 last night.
Gagne, who also assisted on Joni Pitkanen’s goal, took a pass in front from Jon Sim and beat Garth Snow to give Philadelphia its only lead.
New York nearly tied it with 0.2 seconds left, but a video review revealed the puck didn’t go in.
The Flyers, who trailed 2-0 after the first period, played without injured forwards Peter Forsberg and Keith Primeau but split the home-and-home series. Philadelphia has defeated the Islanders three times in four games.
The Islanders are 4-1 in their last five road games, including a win Saturday at Philadelphia, but they’ve dropped three straight at home.
Robert Esche stopped 20 shots and allowed fewer than four goals for the first time five games. He had dropped three straight decisions and didn’t play in four of Philadelphia’s previous six contests.
Patrick Sharp scored the Flyers’ other goal. Miroslav Satan, Jason Blake, and Mark Parrish had goals for the Islanders, who also led 3-1. Snow started for the second straight game and made 31 saves.
Forsberg is expected to skate Wednesday and is questionable for tonight’s home game against New Jersey.
