TORONTO – Bryan McCabe scored two power-play goals, leading the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 2-1 victory over the Rangers last night.

McCabe scored on a two-man advantage in the first, and gave Toronto a 2-1 lead at 3:37 of the third. The veteran defenseman leads the NHL with 17 points on the power play.

Jaromir Jagr scored his league-leading 18th goal for the Rangers, who dropped to 1-3 on their five game road trip. Jagr had a hat trick in Saturday’s victory over Pittsburgh, his former team.

Eric Lindros played against the Rangers for the first time since signing with Toronto over the summer. Lindros didn’t record a point, but had a physical game against his former team.

McCabe leads all NHL defenseman with 25 points. He’s made himself a strong candidate to play for Team Canada at the upcoming Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy. Defenseman Tomas Kaberle assisted on both of McCabe’s goals. Mc-Cabe’s one-timer gave Toronto a 1-0 lead at 18:01 of the first.

Jagr called for the puck by tapping his stick on the ice before tying it at 1 at 6:14 of the second. Michael Nylander made pass from the behind the net to Jagr, who scored from in front of the net.

McCabe’s shot from the point went between goalie Kevin Weekes’s legs early in the third. But Weekes, a Toronto native, made several impressive stops earlier in the game, finishing with 22 saves. Ed Belfour also had a strong game for Toronto with 27 saves.

The Rangers emptied their net and put out an extra skater with 40 seconds, but couldn’t tie it.

BUFFALO 4, DEVILS 1 Chris Drury had a goal and assist in Buffalo’s 4-1 win over New Jersey last night, helping the Sabres snap an 11-game winless streak against the Devils.

J.P. Dumont also had a goal and assist, while defenseman Brian Campbell, with the go-ahead goal, and Daniel Briere also scored. Martin Biron stopped 21 shots for the Sabres, who had gone 0-8-3 against the Devils since a 2-1 win at Buffalo on January 12, 2002.

Buffalo also improved to 9-9-0 this season, winning only its third game in the last 10.

Scott Gomez scored for the Devils, who were coming off consecutive wins against Washington. New Jersey is 2-3-2 in its last seven and hasn’t won three straight since March 2004, when it won four in a row.

Tied 1-1, Drury set up the game-winner getting the puck behind the net and then feeding Campbell, pinching in at the left circle. Campbell’s shot went through two Devils defenders and beat Martin Brodeur on the short side on a power-play seven minutes into the second period.

Drury then sealed the win eight minutes into the third period after Brodeur came out to stop Mike Grier’s shot on a rush from the left circle. Drury out-muscled Jamie Langenbrunner to the rebound and, from a bad angle, had his shot go in off Brodeur’s outstretched stick.
