BRISEBOIS SCORES, PRICE SAVES AS MONTREAL BEATS BOSTON 1–0
Patrice Brisebois snapped a scoreless tie late in the second period, rookie Carey Price posted his first playoff shutout and the Montreal Canadiens moved within one game of advancing with a 1–0 win over the Boston Bruins last night. The Canadiens, the no. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference, lead the best-of-seven, first-round series 3–1 and can wrap it up at home tomorrow night

MEMPHIS’ ROSE GOING TO NBA, CALIPARI AGREES TO EXTENSION
Memphis freshman Derrick Rose announced he was jumping to the NBA Tuesday, the same day coach John Calipari agreed in principle to a contract extension with the school.
Rose capped his spectacular first season by leading Memphis to the national championship game, where they lost to Kansas in overtime. The 6-foot-3 guard from Chicago averaged 20.8 points in six NCAA tournament games and will likely be taken with one of the top picks in the draft. Terms of Calipari’s deal have not been finalized.
BASEBALL
MARINERS PUT PITCHER BEDARD ON 15-DAY DISABLED LIST
Mariners ace Erik Bedard went on the 15-day disabled list yesterday with inflammation in his left hip, a condition that is improving. The move is retroactive to April 9, and Seattle’s ace isn’t sure when he might pitch again. Seattle traded five players to the Baltimore Orioles in February for the 28-year-old Bedard, boosting hopes of a playoff berth this season.
