Transgender White Supremacist Terrorist Sues Bureau of Prisons Seeking Transfer to Women’s Institution

A transgender terrorist serving a 53-year federal sentence for bombing a Minnesota Islamic Center is suing the Bureau of Prisons, alleging sex discrimination because he now identifies as a woman.Emily Claire Hari — formerly known as Michael Hari — was convicted in 2021 of bombing the Dar al-Farooq Islamic Center in Bloomington in what the judge described as a “highly sophisticated and premeditated act of domestic terrorism.”Hari established a terrorist militia group called the White Rabbits in Clarence, Illinois and recruited others to join. He and several others drove in a rented pickup truck to Minnesota to bomb the DAF Islamic Center. Prosecutors said Hari targeted the DAF specifically to terrorize Muslims into believing they are not welcome in the United States and should leave the country.The 20-pound black powder pipe bomb exploded and set a container with a mixture of diesel fuel and gasoline on fire, causing extensive damage to the building. Several worshipers were gathered in the mosque for morning prayers at the time of the blast but were not hurt.The same group carried out an unsuccessful attack on a Champaign, Illinois, abortion clinic.During the trial, Hari identified as a woman but was sent to a men’s prison after sentencing. He applied for transfer to a women’s prison in 2023 but was denied. The Federal Bureau of Prisons currently lists Hari as an inmate at the male-only Federal Correctional Instition Sheridan, a medium security prison in Oregon.The feminist news outlet Reduxx says Hari filed a complaint asking for injunctive and declaratory relief alleging his constitutional rights had been violated because of being housed in a male prison and not receiving “gender-affirming” health care.The complaint states that, while in prison, Hari received medical assessments and recommendations for hormone therapy, electrolysis hair removal, a vaginoplasty, breast implants, and access to feminine undergarments and clothing.Hari started receiving feminizing hormones, but treatment was halted after President Trump issued an executive order banning the use of federal funds for such treatments in federal prisons.Hari’s complaint claims women’s undergarments were seized by prison staff when they moved to implement the executive order. The complaint also claims a violation of Hari’s eighth amendment rights against cruel and unusual punishment because of the withdrawal of “gender affirming” procedures and accommodations, according to Reduxx.Hari’s case is similar to another recent case involving a biological male inmate against the Bureau of Prisons. In November, a judge ordered the Bureau of Prisons to provide laser hair removal, facial feminization surgery, and speech therapy to a transgender pedophile who changed his name to Nani Buckingham within 30 days. Buckingham, who was convicted of sexually abusing his 10-year-old son, has since claimed the Bureau of Prisons has not complied with that order.
