FREQUENT FLYERS

This week British Airways announced a frequent-flyer bonus. The airline will award 40,250 miles to Executive Club members living in the United States or Canada who complete at least one roundtrip transatlantic flight in First or Club World (business class) between January 13 and April 30. Flyers must first register online at www.ba.com/winteroffer. Doing so provides a minimum of 50,000 miles, including the bonus and those accrued on the transatlantic flights. During the special, there is no limitation on the number of bookings or miles accrued.

For more information, visit www.ba.com/winteroffer.

LUXURY TRAVEL

Petit St. Vincent, a 113-acre private island on the edge of the Grenadines, has announced upgrades throughout the resort, including plush Italian bedding, purple heart hardwood headboards equipped with reading lamps, and comfortable new teak chaise lounges.

Last September, Hurricane Ivan left Petit St. Vincent largely untouched except for a couple of inches of fresh sand on its two-mile beach.

Resort rates start at $585 a night double occupancy, and include a private cottage, three gourmet meals a day in the dining room or private villa, early morning coffee and afternoon tea, room service, and activities such as snorkeling, windsurfing, glass bottomed kayaking, and more.

For reservations, call 800-654-9326, or visit www.psvresort.com.

AMERICAN HISTORY

After years of planning and fund-raising, the International Civil Rights Center & Museum will open February 1 in the F.W. Woolworth’s building in downtown Greensboro, N.C. The museum is located exactly where four North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University freshmen took seats at a lunch counter and were refused service. Their action, 45 years ago on February 1, launched the sit-in that became a major component of the Civil Rights movement. Visitors to the museum can learn the details of that historic event and the era itself.

For more information, call 800-748-7116, or visit www.sitinmovement.org.

SKIING

The Web site XCSkiResorts.com has compiled a list of North America’s Top 10 romantic cross-country ski resorts. They include: Callaghan Country in Whistler, British Columbia, where up to eight couples can enjoy 8,000 acres of wilderness with 36 feet of guaranteed snow, without high-altitude problems; Fairmont Chateau at Lake Louise, Alberta, whose hundreds of kilometers of trails lead right from the door; Garland Resort in Lewiston, Mich., where 37 kilometers of trails end with gourmet meals; Lone Mountain Ranch in Big Sky, Mo., where skiers glide through Yellowstone National Park; and, closer to home, Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, N.Y.
