Trump Claims Netanyahu and Iran Both ‘Want a Deal’

Both Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Iran want a deal with Tehran over its nuclear program, President Trump claimed. Iran “wants to make a deal very badly” and Mr. Netanyahu “also wants a deal. He wants a good deal,” Axios quoted Mr. Trump as saying. The president also told the outlet that he is considering sending another aircraft carrier to the Middle East in case negotiations with Iran collapse: ”We have an armada that is heading there and another one might be going.”“Either we will make a deal or we will have to do something very tough like last time. Last time they didn’t believe I would do it. They overplayed their hand,” Mr. Trump added, referring to the American strike on Iran’s nuclear sites in June last year. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Wednesday that Tehran is “not seeking to acquire nuclear weapons. We have stated this repeatedly and are ready for any verification.”“Our country, Iran, will not yield to their excessive demands. Our Iran will not yield in the face of aggression, but we are continuing dialogue with all our strength with neighboring countries in order to establish peace and tranquility in the region,” he added. Mr. Trump is meeting Mr. Netanyahu at the White House on Wednesday to discuss the nuclear negotiations and Israel’s concerns, which include the regime’s ballistic missile program and its support for terror groups. Mr. Netanyahu met with Mr. Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and special envoy Steve Witkoff at the Blair House in Washington on Tuesday evening to discuss “regional issues.” The prime minister’s office said that Mr. Kushner and Mr. Witkoff “provided an update on the first round of negotiations they held with Iran last Friday.”The Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), Ali Larijani, meanwhile expressed concern over the meeting between the two leaders in the White House. “Netanyahu is now on his way to the United States. Americans must think wisely and not allow him, through posturing, to imply before his flight that ‘I want to go and teach Americans the framework of the nuclear negotiations’,” he said. “They (Americans) must remain alert to the destructive role of the Zionists,” Mr. Larijani added. It’s unclear when the next round of negotiations will take place, but Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi described the talks in Oman last week as a “good start.”
