Trump Rejects Iran Counterproposal on Nuclear Deal as ‘Totally Unacceptable’

President Trump said Iran’s response to the U.S. proposal for an end to the war and a comprehensive agreement on Tehran’s nuclear program is “totally unacceptable.”“I have just read the response from Iran’s so-called ‘Representatives.’ I don’t like it — TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!” Mr. Trump wrote on Truth Social. Tehran’s response focuses solely on ceasing all hostilities in the region as well as Iranian recognition of sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz, according to Iranian state media. The counter proposal reportedly also included releasing frozen Iranian assets and lifting of sanctions.Prime Minister Netanyahu, meanwhile, demanded that Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium “has to be taken out” while warning that the conflict with the regime “is not over.”In an interview with CBS News, Mr. Netanyahu said the 40-day war with Iran “accomplished a great deal, but it’s not over, because there’s still nuclear material, enriched uranium that has to be taken out of Iran.”“There are still enrichment sites that have to be dismantled. There are still proxies that Iran supports. There are ballistic missiles that they still want to produce. Now, we’ve degraded a lot of it. But all that is still there, and there’s work to be done,” he added. The prime minister stressed that an agreement between the U.S. and Iran “should cover all these areas, including the proxies.”“Can it end with, as President Trump has led, now, a blockade, an economic pressure on them to do it with non-military means? Fine. If it can be accomplished, why not? But if not both the U.S. and Israel, we both agree, President Trump and I, that if necessary, we can reengage them militarily, if it’s necessary,” Mr. Netanyahu said. When asked how he envisions that the stockpile of some 400kg of 60% enriched uranium should be removed from Iranian territory, he replied: “You go in, and you take it out.”“President Trump has said to me, ‘I want to go in there.’ I mean, he’s said that publicly. He’s said it and I think he’s right. He’s very committed to this. And I think it can be done physically. That’s not the problem. If you have an agreement, and you go in, and you take it out, why not? That’s the best way,” he said. Mr. Netanyahu also recalled how he met with Mr. Trump at Mar-a-Lago during the last American election: “The first thing he says to me, even before I sit down, he says, ‘You know, Bibi, we cannot let Iran have nuclear weapons. I’m not gonna let it happen.’ So he’s infused with this mission.”As for Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, whose health condition has been widely discussed after he was wounded in the opening strike in Tehran on February 28, Mr. Netanyahu said: “If you ask me what his condition is, first of all, if you ask me if he’s alive, I think he is alive.” “What his condition is, it’s hard to say, you know? He’s holed up in some bunker or in some secret place. And he’s I think he’s trying to exert his authority,” he added. The Iranian regime publicly commented on Mr. Khamenei’s health on Saturday for the first time since the attack, claiming he was back in “full health.”“His back injury has improved during this period, and the kneecap injury will soon heal as well. He is in full health,” Mazaher Hosseini, the director general of protocol at the office of the supreme leader, said.
