Ukraine Claims Russia Has Lost More Than 1.3 Million Troops Since War Began

Ukraine estimates that Russia has lost 1,335,150 soldiers since Moscow launched its war in February 2022. The report by Ukraine’s General Staff of the Armed Forces said the Russian losses also included 11,914 tanks, 41,306 artillery systems, 1,767 multiple launch rocket systems, 24,507 armored combat vehicles, 93,824 vehicles and fuel tanks, 1,357 air defense systems, 272,062 drones, 33 ships and boats, 435 aircraft, 352 helicopters, and two submarines.Ukraine’s Armed Forces hasn’t published its own casualty figures but a report by The Center for Strategic and International Studies in January estimated that Ukraine suffered between 500,000 and 600,000 casualties. President Volodymyr Zelensky meanwhile arrived at Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, on Sunday where he met with leaders of the United Kingdom, France, Italy, and Poland, among others. The president tweeted on Monday morning that he had an “important conversation” with the president of the European Union commission, Ursula von der Leyen, where the two discussed the European support loan, “including the timeline for the first tranche, which will be allocated to the coproduction of drones.” “We also agreed to move forward actively on a Drone Deal with the European Union and reviewed the details of this prospective security cooperation. We are preparing a plan of steps that will enable the creation of the necessary security infrastructure,” he added. Mr. Zelensky also announced that Ukraine had secured a €90 billion support package from the EU. “It is important that the funds begin to arrive as soon as possible and that Ukraine is able to implement its resilience plans in preparation for winter,” he said. Canada’s prime minister, Mark Carney, agreed to donate another $200 million for the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List ahead of Monday’s meeting with Mr. Zelensky. “I thank Canada for a new contribution to the PURL initiative,” Mr. Zelensky said, adding that the NATO chief, Mark Rutte “assured that the provision of anti‑ballistic missiles to Ukraine remains consistent with earlier arrangements.”The Ukrainian president said that negotiations to end the war between Kyiv and Moscow have paused due to the conflict between Iran and America but that the leaders “discussed how to reinvigorate this process, contacts with the United States, and Europe’s role in it.” As the leaders met in Armenia a Ukrainian drone reportedly hit a luxury tower some seven kilometers west of the Kremlin at Moscow, causing material damage.
