War in Iran: Trump Calls on the People To ‘Take Over Your Government’

The launch of “Operation Lion’s Roar,” the joint attack by Israel and America on the Islamic Republic of Iran, could emerge as one of the most important moments in the history of the modern Middle East. President Trump, in a video aired in the middle of the night, explained that “we’re doing this, not for now. We’re doing this for the future, and it is a noble mission.” He told the Iranian people to “take over your government. It will be yours to to take.”The mullahs have long dubbed America and Israel the “big Satan” and “little Satan.” Now the two “Satans” are acting in concert. Can others in the region cooperate in throwing off the yoke that has pulled them down for nearly a half century? Mr. Trump recently united Muslims in pursuit of peace in Gaza. Can he now gather a “Board of War”? In the lead up to Saturday’s strikes, after all, Iran’s neighbors warned America to forgo war. Yet a Gulf leader, Saudi Arabia, has released a statement condemning Iran’s retaliatory attack on Saudi territory. It vowed to take “all firm measures,” as the Iranians “undermine the security and stability of the region.” Other Gulf states will join the battle. The ayatollahs have wreaked havoc on the entire region and beyond and hurt American Mideast interests in their pursuit of dominance and their attempt to instill fanaticism among all Muslims. Could that give pause to Mr. Trump’s critics? They claim that Israel, rather than America and its other Middle East allies, is the only beneficiary here. In reality, there are many beneficiaries. The danger Iran poses to our interests in the region and beyond should have been addressed long ago. As Mr. Trump said at 2 a.m., Tehran wanted to negotiate, then it didn’t, then it wanted to again, etc. Faux-diplomacy has been their forte for decades. On Friday the Omani foreign minister, Badr Albusaidi, in an interview with CBS News, begged for more time for negotiations, which he contended were making important progress. Muscat has been a champion of “mediation” between America and the Ayatollahs since President Obama struck his nuclear deal. In reality, Muscat was always the Iranian regime’s advocate. Now the ayatollahs are turning to other global allies. The Iranian foreign ministry said in a statement that the American-Israeli attack violates “Article 2(4), of the United Nations Charter.” They asked for protection from the UN secretary general and the security council. Some Washington politicians will surely criticize the operation similarly as a violation of the Constitution. The bigger question remains: Can America stand yet another half century of Iranian mayhem? Most Iranians rejoice that Mr. Trump’s promise, “help is on its way,” is finally being redeemed. Israel reportedly killed the Revolutionary Guards commander, Mohammad Pakpour. Prime Minister Netanyahu called on the Iranian army to rise up against the Guards and Basij. Mr. Trump called on Iranians to “seize control of your destiny and to unleash the prosperous and glorious future that is close within your reach.” Suffering Iranians know that the Ayatollah’s hold on power is unsustainable. Mr. Trump indicates that the war will not end quickly and might entail casualties. The ayatollahs’ fall, though, is a necessary step toward a new regional, even global, architecture. The Islamic Republic has allied with Russia and Communist China. Now, Mr. Trump has done what previous presidents chose not to — offer Iran a future.
