JUDITH ROTHSCHILD GRANTS
The Judith Rothschild Foundation has announced its 2005 grant awards totaling more than $260,000. The New York recipients are: the Harlem Hospital Center, $10,000 toward the relocation and restoration of Charles H. Alston’s 1940 murals “Magic in Medicine” and “Modern Medicine” and $10,000 toward the relocation and restoration of the 1936 mural by Alfred d. Crimi, “Modern Surgery and Anesthesia”; the Aperture Foundation, $15,000 for “Esther Bubley: On Assignment,” a monograph of the photographer written by photography historian Bonnie Yochelson with estate archivist Tracy A. Schmid; the Dia Art Foundation, $20,000 to document and catalogue the work of the sculptor Fred Sandback, as well as create a related installation manual; the Smithsonian Institution’s Archives of America, $10,000 for the microfilming of the papers of the lithographer Prentiss Taylor; art historian Ellen Russotto, $5,000 for costs of preparing the biography of the artist Alice Yamin, 1905-2002; and Alfred A. Knopf and Jed Perl, $5,000 for rights, reproduction, and translations costs associated with the inclusion of several recently deceased and under recognized American artists in the book “New Art City.”

NOTES
The Brooklyn Museum has received a $100,000 grant from the Fernwood Art Foundation in support of its current exhibit, “Basquiat,” a retrospective of 70 paintings and 20 works on paper that is scheduled to travel to Los Angeles and Houston. The award recognizes the interactive, bilingual exhibition Web site aimed at teens. The grant is made by the charitable arm of Fernwood Art Investments LLC.
