London has another new gallery specializing in street art.

Grenade Art, based in Notting Hill, has been co-founded by Phil Taratutti, 33, and Max Polak, 30, former graffiti artists who were prolific train writers during the 1990s. They aim to create “a platform for more underground street art,” according to a press release issued on their behalf.

The gallery opens Wednesday with “Quintessential,” a mixed show of original works by eight emerging British, American, French, and Japanese street artists on the theme of “all things quintessentially English,” the statement said.

“Artists like Stika, Dr. Brazill, and Alex Young are all well known in the street art world, but not the commercial art world,” Mr. Polak said in a telephone interview.

When asked why he chose to set up a gallery for underground art in one of London’s most affluent districts, Mr. Polak said: “We’re near Ladbroke Grove. That’s where the street art movement started in London in the 1980s.”

Prices range from about $2,000 to $8,000, he said.
