Harvard University named Jane Mendillo, the holder of two Yale degrees, to run its $34.9 billion endowment, elevating her to the most prominent investment job in the academic world.
Ms. Mendillo, Wellesley College’s investment chief since February 2002, will become president and chief executive officer of Harvard Management Co. beginning July 1, according to a statement today by the university in Cambridge, Mass.
The Boston-based company runs the Harvard endowment, the world’s largest college fund. Ms. Mendillo, 49, will succeed Harvard Business School professor Robert Kaplan, the fund’s interim manager since November 12.
