SAHEL SOUNDS Filmmaker Hisham Mayet introduces a screening of his new film, “Niger: Magic and Ecstasy in the Sahel,” a celebration of life and music in the Sahel region of Africa. TIMBUKTU TUNES A screening of the film “Festival in the Desert: The Tent Sessions” is followed by a performance of desert blues by Abdoulaye Alhassane and Ousseini Chipkao and other African musicians. The movie, which features performances by Robert Plant, Ali Farka Toure, Oumou Sangare, and others, was filmed behind the scenes at a music festival in Timbuktu in 2003.
