CUT AND PASTE
The Bent 2005 Festival, which brings circuit bending to the masses, kicks off today with a “Walkman bending” workshop (tonight, 6 p.m., free). Circuit bending is “modifying the circuitry of battery-powered children’s toys to create strange, new, and unintended sounds for creative purposes.” Organizers tout the activity as an easy way to create electronic music for those who might be intimidated by traditional computer setups. Attendees at tonight’s workshop should bring their own cassette tapes, scissors, thin adhesive tape, and a Walkman tape player that they’re willing to destroy. Festival: Tonight through Saturday, times and prices vary, the Tank, 432 West 42nd Street, between Ninth and Tenth avenues. Please go to www.thetanknyc.org/bent2005 for a full schedule and more information.
GREEN DAY
Aggressively quirky singer songwriter Adam Green – he sings, sometimes crudely, about bluebirds, head shots, and Jessica Simpson – performs this week. The Gnomes and The Witnesses open. Tomorrow, 8 p.m. doors open, Bowery Ballroom, 6 Delancey St. at Bowery, 212-533-2111, $13 in advance, $15 at the door. Note: 18 and older.

Pianist Frederic Rzewski performs a program of his contemporary compositions, including several New York premieres. The concert takes place in a piano store just north of Carnegie Hall, where Mr. Rzewski gave his most recent performance. Friday, 7 p.m., Faust Harrison Pianos, 205 W. 58th St., between Seventh Avenue and Broadway, 212-489-0666, $15.
