BIG SKY COUNTRY An exhibit of 19thcentury American mammoth plate photographs features the work of Carleton Watkins, William Henry Jackson, and Frank Jay Haynes. The photographs on display in “Celebrating the American West,” on view through this weekend, were taken with cameras that held glass negatives as large as 18 inches by 22 inches. They depict Western scenes including Yellowstone and Yosemite. PORTRAITS OF ISRAEL Stanley Batkin’s photographs of Israelis are on display in “Faces of Israel.” He has captured more than 20,000 Israelis on camera over the course of his career, including immigrants from Ethiopia and Russia, prime ministers, professors, shopkeepers, and journalists. His work is also currently on display at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art.
