ABSTRACT GIACOMETTI The Museum of Modern Art has installed a gallery devoted to the pre-World War II works of Alberto Giacometti. The Swiss artist is best known for his thin sculptures from the 1940s and later. The works on display were made between 1926 and 1934, when Giacometti explored more abstract modes. The installation includes newly acquired plaster versions of “Gazing Head” (1928-29), left, and “Head-Skull” (1933-34), above, both recent additions to the museum’s holdings.
