SWIM AROUND MANHATTAN Twenty-five individual swimmers ranging in age from 21 to 61 join a number of relay teams competing in the 24th annual Manhattan Island Marathon Swim. The 28.5-mile swim begins at South Cove in Battery Park City. Swimmers proceed down the Hudson River, around the southern tip of the island, up the East River, across the Harlem River, and finish where they started. Spectator viewing points are anywhere along the water, including Roosevelt Island, Trump Pier, Christopher Street, Dyckman Street, and the Yankee Stadium Parking Lot. The winning time should be between seven and seven and a half hours. Proceeds benefit the New York City Parks and Recreation Learn-to-Swim program. Saturday, 9:15 a.m. start time, 201-288-6312, free.
