NEW BLUES
“Belfast Blues,” in which Geraldine Hughes portrays 24 characters in the story of her Irish adolescence during the 1970s and 1980s, begins a new performance schedule today. Through Sunday, April 24, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, 8 p.m., Wednesday, 3 p.m. and 8 p.m., Sunday, 5 p.m., the Culture Project, 45 Bleecker St., between Mott and Mulberry streets, 212-253-9983 for information, 212-307-4100 for tickets, $45 general, $20 students one hour before curtain. Note: There will be no performance this Thursday; an additional performance takes place Friday, 8 p.m.
BASEBALL TROUBLE
“The Information She Carried” tells the story of a possibly cursed baseball. In 1920, Ray Chapman became the only Major League Baseball player to be killed by a baseball during a game. The same ball was later accidentally used during a high-school baseball game and seriously injured the third baseman. David Williams’s play tells the story of a conspiracy theorist who attempts to steal the “Chapman Death Ball,” convinced that it holds otherworldly powers. JOURNEYMAN
The Public Theater’s “New Work Now” series of one-time-only readings kicks off with “Journey to the End of the Night.” The Flying Machine ensemble adapted the story of a nihilistic man’s journeys after World War I from the novel by Louis-Ferdinand Celine. Josh Carlebach directs. Thursday, 8 p.m., Public Theater, 425 Lafayette St. at Astor Place, 212-260-2400, free, reservations strongly suggested.
