TWO JULIES August Strindberg’s 1888 drama “Miss Julie,” about an artistocratic woman who has an affair with her father’s butler, is enjoying a bout of popularity. Previews of Craig Lucas’s adaptation, based on a translation by director Anders Cato,begin tonight. Mr. Lucas is nominated for a Tony for Best Book of a Musical for “The Light in the Piazza,” now playing at the Lincoln Center Theater. (Previews begin: Tonight, 8 p.m. Opens: Thursday, May 19, 8 p.m. Runs: Through Sunday, June 19, Tuesday-Friday, 8 p.m., Saturday, 3 p.m. and 8 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 3 p.m., Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, 224 Waverly Place, between Perry and W. 11th streets, 212-868-4444, $37.50.) David Poole’s “Julie” is a more radical reimagining. The staging incorporates shadow puppetry, dance, and mask work, and the script adds other writings of the period to the original text. The play’s setting has also moved, to a remote island in the Stockholm archipelago from a Swedish kitchen. Mr. Poole directs the Theatre-Arts Connection production. FITZGERALD IN LOVE Peter Mills’s new musical “The Pursuit of Persephone” inserts F. Scott Fitzgerald into the plot of his first novel, “This Side of Paradise.” Cara Reichel, who co-wrote the show, directs the Prospect Theater Company production. Through Sunday, May 22, Thursday-Saturday, 8 p.m., Sunday, 3 p.m., Connelly Theatre, 220 E. 4th St., between avenues A and B, 212-352-3101, $15 general, $12 students. Note: Additional performance takes place Wednesday, May 18, at 8 p.m.
