SAFE AND SOUND Daniel O’Brien’s “Savior” begins performances as part of the Midtown International Theatre Festival. The dark comedy follows a troubled family in downtown Manhattan. Christopher Carter Sanderson directs the Tragicomic Theatre production. HOME SWEET HOME The annual American Living Room Festival, a forum for theater, music, and dance works, takes as its theme this year the “carousel of American progress,” with pieces that explore the country’s past, present, and future. The festival opens with Steven Gridley’s play “Still Life With Runner,” the chronicle of a runner’s wandering thoughts as he competes in a race. The production is directed by Mr. Gridley and Jacob Titus (tomorrow and Thursday). Other highlights include “Limbs,” a dance-theater performance about war veterans, directed by Niegel Smith (Saturday, July 30, and Sunday, July 31); “In the Belly of the Beast With Two Backs,” an adaptation of “Othello” that incorporates mambo, erotica, and hymns, directed by Lisa Jackson (Friday, August 12, and Saturday, August 13), and “Fresh Kills: A Waste Is a Terrible Thing To Mind,” a multimedia meditation on garbage in New York City, with a focus on the Staten Island landfill, directed by Lanny Meyers (Tuesday, August 16, and Wednesday, August 17). PHILADELPHIA STORY First produced on Broadway in 1964, Brian Friel’s “Philadelphia, Here I Come!” is the story of a young Irishman who, after a string of bad luck, accepts an invitation from his aunt to live with her in Philadelphia.The comedy, which is in previews, is directed by Ciaran O’Reilly. Opens: Thursday, 8 p.m. Runs: Tuesday-Saturday, 8 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 3 p.m., Irish Repertory Theatre, 132 W. 22nd St., between Sixth and Seventh avenues, 212-727-2737, $45 and $50.
