ROUGHS IN THE DIAMOND Paul Boocock’s one-man show “Boocock’s House of Baseball,” which closes this weekend, spotlights the “redemptive stories” of diamond stars Derek Jeter, Reggie Jackson, Pete Rose, Jason Giambi, and Darryl Strawberry, along with a few political potshots and some physical comedy. Mr. Boocock examines contemporary American life through the lens of the country’s favorite pastime, a sport he believes is “the final frontier of democracy.” Mr. Boocock is a member of the experimental theater troupe Elevator Repair Service. MORE MOORE Tony Award-winner Melba Moore’s one-woman show “Sweet Songs of the Soul” focuses on her life in music. The performance features songs by Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, and Harold Arlen and is directed by Rhonda Passion. PIGMALION Sarah Daniels’s “Gut Girls” is the story of a group of women who work at a slaughterhouse in turn-of-the-century England. Their lives are changed when they meet an aristocrat bent on making ladies of them. The play is directed by Michaela Goldhaber. WEDDING WOES Kathleen Warnock’s new play, “Grieving for Genevieve,” tells the humorous story of three sisters who convene for a wedding and form an unexpected bond while preparing for it. The production is part of the Midtown International Theater Festival. ONE-NIGHT ‘LOVE’ The producers of “I Love You Because” present a one-time reading of their new musical, which is based on “Pride and Prejudice” and opens off-Broadway in the fall.
