Families of Druze Children Killed in Hezbollah Rocket Attack on Soccer Field Sue Terror Group for $26 Million

Families of Druze children killed while playing soccer when a Hezbollah rocket struck their field in northern Israel are suing the Iranian-backed terror group for millions, according to a lawsuit filed in Jerusalem District Court on Sunday.The lawsuit was filed on behalf of eight of the 12 families whose children were murdered during a July 2024 rocket strike on the predominantly Druze town of Majdal Shams, according to Israel’s Kan News. The families are seeking 80 million shekels, approximately $26 million, in damages for the attack, which killed 12 children and injured dozens of others.The case was submitted under a law passed by Israel’s Knesset in 2024 that enables victims of terror to seize funds used to finance terrorist attacks, the Compensation of Victims of Terrorism Bill.“No act of firing rockets at civilians should go unpunished,” said Laith Abu Saleh, whose 16-year-old son, Fajer, was killed in the strike. “While our private pain is immense, it reflects the wider suffering of Israeli society. Alongside the efforts of our security forces, we are pursuing justice through the courts to deter future attacks and hold those responsible accountable.”Mr. Abu Saleh told Kan News that while the “lawsuit will not bring back our children” it “seeks to establish accountability for the deliberate targeting of innocent civilians.” Fajer was one of 12 Druze children killed when an Iranian-made rocket carrying 53 kilograms of explosives scored a direct hit on the soccer field where they were playing. The rocket was fired by Hezbollah terrorists from the Lebanese town of Shebaa.An attorney for the families, Nitzana Darshan-Leitner, emphasized the urgency of legal action. “Justice must be pursued now, while Hezbollah is weakened and internationally exposed,” she said. “This case will continue in the courts until justice is achieved for the victims of terrorism.”An additional lawsuit is expected to be filed by the more than 30 people injured in the rocket strike. They are reportedly seeking 165 million shekels, approximately $53 million, in damages.
