President Bush’s nominee to be the new ambassador to the Holy See was approved by the Senate Wednesday night, according to sources in Congress. The new ambassador will be Mary Ann Glendon, a Harvard Law School professor and former adviser to Pope John Paul II. Her nomination had been stalled after she received criticism from the left for her views on abortion, contraception, and gay marriage, while some on the right had questioned whether her credentials were conservative enough.
