Peshawar, Pakistan – A suicide bomber killed an American diplomat and three others yesterday when a car filled with explosives was rammed against a vehicle outside the American consulate in Karachi.

The attack, which injured 50 people, came two days ahead of a visit to Pakistan by President Bush. Mr. Bush announced the death of the diplomat, named as David Foy, during a news conference in Delhi.

He added that he would go ahead with his visit to Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad.

After talks with the Indian prime minister, Manmohan Singh, Mr. Bush said: “Terrorists and killers are not going to prevent me from going to Pakistan.” Pakistan’s president, Pervez Musharraf, is a key ally in the American-led “war on terror” and his policies have angered radical Islamists.
