Design addicts who never want to miss a furniture fair, store opening, or product launch have a new tool at their disposal: Design-Calendar.com, a Web site that tracks design-related events, from exhibits and lectures to cocktail parties.
Click on any day on the online calendar, and you’ll see what design events are happening in New York City and around the world. Tomorrow, for instance, “Artissima – International Fair of Contemporary Art” is opening in Turin, Italy, and “The International Expositions of Sculptural Objects and Functional Art” is opening in Chicago.
In addition to searching by day, the site allows users to search by category, such as furnishings, kitchen and bath, and fine art, or by city or event name.
The Web site was created by the Brooklyn-based public relations firm Novita Communications, partly as a way to help industry professionals plan events that wouldn’t conflict with the events of their peers. The calendar is free for users until January 1, 2005; at that point, current listings will remain available to all, but only subscribers will have access to future events and search functions. A 1-year subscription for one person costs $195; group subscriptions for companies are also available.
