Michael Cohen Teases Interview With Trump, Playing Clip of Him Calling Former Foe ‘Sir’ and ‘Boss’

President Trump’s personal attorney–turned–foe, Michael Cohen, teased his exclusive interview with the president on Thursday in which Mr. Cohen heaps praise on his former boss, referring to him often as “sir” and reminiscing about their past relationship. The full interview is due to be aired on Sunday. Mr. Cohen announced on Wednesday that he would host Mr. Trump on his radio program and accompanying podcast, “When You Know … You Know,” with a teaser airing on Thursday evening and the full interview being made public on Sunday. The exceptionally friendly nature of the conversation stands in stark contrast to Mr. Cohen’s past criticisms of the president, when he called him a conman and a racist.The radio station which hosts Mr. Cohen, 77 WABC, posted a 15-minute teaser clip of Mr. Cohen’s phone interview with Mr. Trump on Thursday evening. The clip features Mr. Cohen beaming with glee as he talks with his ex-boss. The teaser starts with Mr. Cohen reminding Mr. Trump of a famous instance back in 2016 when Mr. Cohen, appearing on CNN on behalf of the Trump campaign, told a television anchor, “Says who?” in response to a question about polls showing Mr. Trump losing that year’s election. Mr. Trump cut in to praise Mr. Cohen, saying that the government had been weaponized against him.“They weaponized you like nobody’s ever been weaponized — like few have,” Mr. Trump said. “Maybe just you and I, sir,” Mr. Cohen responded, smiling. “Mine was at a level that nobody’s ever seen before,” Mr. Trump said. “I respect the fact that you recanted everything you said and that’s a big thing that you did.”After that on-air interview with CNN, Mr. Cohen reminded Mr. Trump of their meeting shortly after in which Mr. Trump apparently said “f– them,” referring to CNN. Of all the people who have had ruptures with Mr. Trump after periods of working for him, Mr. Cohen’s case is arguably the most famous, other than that of Vice President Mike Pence. After being arrested in 2018 for tax evasion and other financial crimes, Mr. Cohen was quick to turn on the then-president. Mr. Cohen also later pleaded guilty to charges of lying to Congress after he lied to lawmakers about Mr. Trump’s interest in building a Trump Tower Moscow. “Mr. Trump is a conman,” Mr. Cohen said before the House Oversight Committee in 2019, detailing his work for the president. “He asked me to pay off an adult film star with whom he had an affair, and to lie about it to his wife, which I did.” Mr. Cohen would later testify against Mr. Trump at his “hush money” criminal trial in New York, where he was convicted on more than 30 counts related to falsifying business documents in order to conceal a settlement payment. In the teaser of their interview posted on Thursday, however, Mr. Cohen made no mention of that saga. Instead, he jumped right back into offering political advice to Mr. Trump. “What do you say to these people who keep bringing up polls when you’re not even running for office again? What’s the point?” Mr. Cohen said, leading Mr. Trump to say that he would win “by 25 points” if he were running for president today. “Boss, you remember when I was by your side? I literally used to analyze the polls and you remember how much attention I used to pay to the methodology?” Mr. Cohen asked, reminiscing about his past closeness with Mr. Trump. Mr. Trump then cut in to call most polls “crooked,” to which Mr. Cohen responded: “Exactly.”After spending months in jail between 2019 and 2020, Mr. Cohen requested a pardon from the Biden administration — a request which was denied. Now, Mr. Cohen says he is asking Mr. Trump’s team for clemency, though he says he has not spoken to the president directly about a pardon. “I took that same [pardon] application with the same documentation and I just rewrote the cover letter removing the name of President Joe Biden and inserting the name President Donald Trump,” Mr. Cohen told CNN on Thursday. “I have not received an acknowledgement that they have the application.”
