The Nextel Cup Series winner, Jimmie Johnson, returned to Midtown on Wednesday morning for Nascar’s 27th annual Champions Week and led a victory lap around Times Square. Mr. Johnson, who is the first Nascar driver to win back-to-back championships in nearly 10 years, took the wheel of his No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet to lead the top 10 drivers of the 2007 Nextel Cup Series down Broadway and onto 42nd Street. From there, the stock cars took a left on Madison Avenue and another left on 53rd Street. The 1.5-mile loop ended back on Broadway in front of the Hard Rock Café. Champions Week ends this evening with a gala dinner at the Waldorf-Astoria.
