ORLANDO, Florida — A man found to be carrying materials in his suitcase that could have been used to make a bomb was arrested at the Orlando International Airport in Florida, officials said.
Behavior specialists with the Transportation Security Administration spotted the suspect about noon yesterday, but authorities would not say what made them suspicious or what was found inside the suitcase.
“He did have within his luggage components of materials that could have been used for an explosive device,” Rep. John Mica, a Florida Republican and ranking member on the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, who was briefed on the matter, said. If what authorities “described is accurate it’s probably one of the most serious security incidents at Orlando International Airport ever,” he added.
The federal security director at the airport, Lee Kair, said the suspect was spotted in the ticketing area and never passed through passenger security.
