ISRAELIS LOBBY ACADEMY TO DISQUALIFY ‘PARADISE NOW’
A group of Israeli parents whose children were killed in Palestinian Arab terror attacks have petitioned the management of the Academy Awards to eliminate the film “Paradise Now” from competition, Reuters reported yesterday. The movie, which is nominated in the Best Foreign Film category, was directed by an Israeli Arab, Hany Abu-Assad, and addresses suicide bombers’ motivation. The producer was a Jewish Israeli and the funding was European, according to the wire service.
The Israeli activists have collected 32,000 signatures in support so far, Reuters said. “What they call ‘Paradise Now’ we call ‘hell now,’ each and every day,” Reuters quoted Yossi Zur, whose teenage son Asaf was killed in a bus bombing, as saying. “It is a mission of the free world not to give such movies a prize.”

RUNAWAY TEENAGERS CRASH-LAND STOLEN PLANE
A teenage boy from Big Bear Lake, California, intending to run away with a friend stole his father’s private plane and headed towards Mexico. But the adventure was cut short when the plane ran out of fuel and the boys had to land in an impromptu runway in the desert of Joshua Tree National Park.
“There was a disagreement between the boys and their parents, and [the boys] decided to run away,” Cindy Beavers of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department told the Associated Press. The boys suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene by rangers, according to park officials. The boys were arrested for investigation of airplane theft and burglary, Ms. Beavers said, and booked into San Bernardino County Juvenile Hall.
