Police arrested a suspected serial rapist linked to recent attacks in Prospect Park yesterday, police officials said.
Police have said they believe the suspect they had in custody yesterday, a resident of Queens, had raped four women in Queens and Brooklyn starting in 2003, with the most recent attack on June 15 in Prospect Park.
In all of the cases, the suspect had targeted women who had just separated from male companions. In one case he attempted to coerce one of his victims into having sex with him by threatening to publicize photographs of her with her male companion, police said.
The suspect in custody yesterday was black and in his 30s, fitting an earlier description released by police of the suspect, police said. Police sources said the victims had been brought in to look at a lineup yesterday afternoon and that charges were pending.
