At yesterday’s meeting of the Billy Graham Crusade, The New York Sun’s Daniela Perdomo talked to a counselor, Curt Blattman, who was born a Jew but was born again on October 12, 1981. A vice president of JP Morgan Chase & Company, he wrote the book “The Challenge,” about finding God.
Q. What are counselors for?
A. Counselors have to learn the gospel. We tell them how God loves the world. Man’s main problem is sin. It’s what separates us from God. Jesus is the only one who can bridge the gap.
How did you go from being Jewish to Christian?
No matter how many good works you do in your life, if you don’t accept Jesus, you can’t go to heaven. I was an atheist. I tried meditation. I tried Zen Buddhism, I looked into Eastern mysticism. But I found that the only book that is true is the Bible. It’s infallible. It’s the only book that can transform people.
Is there a contradiction between faith and business?
I’m comfortable under the boardwalk [feeding the homeless] and in the boardroom.
What about people who don’t believe in Jesus?
Unfortunately, they can’t go to heaven.
