Watch out, Charlize Theron. Swiss watch maker Raymond Weil sued the 31-year-old South African actress yesterday in Manhattan Supreme Court, accusing her of signing an exclusive endorsement deal to wear only Raymond Weil, but then wearing Christian Dior’s faux canary diamond jewelry on the Dior’s Web site.
The Oscar-winning actress, who won in 2004 for “Monster,” was also featured in The Tourneau Times in a photograph captioned “Charlize Theron wears Dior.”
Although the suit doesn’t specify money damages, the Genevabased watch company’s American lawyer, David Jaroslawicz, said his client hopes to recoup more than $20 million the company spent on the campaign.
“She signed an exclusive,” he said. “She got very well paid for it … she went ahead and blatantly violated [it].”
Representatives of Ms. Theron’s and the company she is affiliated with, Denver & Delilah Films, didn’t return messages seeking comment.
