Four young men prowling the East Village together early Friday robbed two people at gunpoint in two separate incidents, police officials said.
About 1:30 a.m., a recent New York University graduate was walking to his apartment on St. Mark’s Place when, in an area between First and Second avenues that is heavily shaded by trees, he encountered the four men.
One darted out and grabbed him by the neck, pushing him against the fence, he said. Two of the assailants took turns pushing guns, one silver and one black, against his chest, demanding money.
They removed about $30 in cash from his wallet and took his cellular telephone and a mini-DV tape, he said. The victim said his losses had a value of about $100.
The robbery took less than 10 seconds, the man, who is 21, said.
The men strolled away westbound in the direction of the Astor Place subway station, he said.
The two officers who filed the police report told him there had been an earlier robbery that night by a group fitting the same description, but the victim, who said cash was taken, left the scene and did not file a police report.
The NYU graduate described the robbers as four athletic-looking men wearing baggy clothes. Two were wearing baseball caps, he said.
“The robbers seemed out of place in the area, if that’s possible in New York,” he said.
In an unrelated incident early Friday, a deliveryman for a Chinese restaurant claimed a man robbed him of an undetermined amount of money, threatening him with a knife – bringing to three the number of armed robberies in the area in a span of several hours.
