Highway Crash On West Side Kills One

One person was killed and three others injured after a driver who may have been drunk struck an SUV on the West Side Highway yesterday afternoon, police said.
Police said the driver of a sedan that caused the accident was in police custody at St. Luke’s Hospital last night. Charges against the 31-year-old man for driving under the influence are pending, police said. He was not immediately identified last night.
Police said the accident occurred around 4 p.m., when the driver was traveling southbound on the West Side Highway and rear-ended an SUV in the vicinity of West 92nd Street. Prior to the accident, police said witnesses observed the sedan traveling at high speeds and weaving in and out of traffic. After being hit, police said the SUV flipped over. Police said a 44-year-old woman who was riding in the backseat of the sedan was killed in the accident. A 44-year-old man riding in the front seat of the sedan was taken to New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in serious condition, police said.
The driver of the SUV was also taken to Cornell with serious internal injuries.
