PRINCIPAL ARRESTED AFTER CONFLICT WITH ON-SITE OFFICER
A New York City principal spent last night in jail after an altercation with a school safety officer. The incident took place at the Bronx Guild High School, a small school that started this year within Adlai Stevenson High School in the Bronx, yesterday morning. The incident started with a fight between two students. A police officer assigned to the school tried to arrest one of the 16-year-old students. The principal, Michael Soguero, 42, thought the police were in the wrong, and intervened. The police department says Mr. Soguero, 42, assaulted the school safety officer who was trying to arrest the student. He was arrested for obstructing governmental administration and assault.
Then a 23-year-old school aid tried to intervene in the principal’s arrest, and he too was arrested and charged with obstructing governmental administration. The 16-year-old student was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. The officer was removed to Albert Einstein Hospital. The principals union president, Jill Levy, said in a statement that Mr. Soguero “categorically denies assaulting anyone.” She also said, “Principal Soguero was recruited for his position, and he is well respected by his faculty and colleagues.”

NYU PROFESSOR CARRYING BODY PARTS IS DELAYED AT AIRPORT
A New York University medical school professor was stopped and quizzed by security guards at LaGuardia Airport yesterday morning when an assortment of different body parts were found in his luggage. The professor, whose name was not released by state officials for privacy reasons, apparently was transporting different parts of a medical cadaver when “a head or half of a head” was detected by security guards scanning his bags, a spokesman for the Port Authority, Allan Hicks, said.
The other types of body parts detected were unclear, Mr. Hicks said. After security guards consulting with officials from United Airlines, a carrier the professors uses often, he was released, Mr. Hicks said.
