More than 430,000 New York City adults — or one of every 13 — are depressed, according to a new Health Department survey.

The results were released yesterday as part of the New York City Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, involving 2,000 city residents who were surveyed in 2004.

The study also found that some 200,000 New Yorkers suffer from anxiety disorders. Nearly half of those disorders are not diagnosed, however, and three out of five are not treated.

Women are twice as likely to be depressed as men, while people in their 20s and 30s suffer from depression more frequently than people over age 60, the study said.
