Police Sergeant Shot During Brooklyn Gunfight

A New York Police Department sergeant was shot in the leg last night after attempting to intervene in a gunfight in Brooklyn, police official said.

The sergeant, who wasn’t identified, had finished his tour when he came upon two people engaged in a dispute at 7:25 p.m. in the Fort Greene section of the Bronx. One man, police said, was attempting to kill another with a firearm.

The sergeant was shot in the leg, but managed to fire several rounds at the shooter, incapacitating him. The other man, who also wasn’t identified as of press time, was also shot in the leg by the alleged shooter. Both the sergeant and the victim were in stable condition. The sergeant was taken to Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan and the other victim was taken to Lutheran Hospital.

The alleged shooter was taken to Brooklyn Hospital and was listed in critical condition.

The dispute took place in front of 14 Auburn Place, police said.

The exact circumstances surrounding the shooting were unclear last night.
