City Council Speaker Christine Quinn said a decision to discipline a council staff member, Viola Plummer, who last month threatened to end the political career of a council member, Leroy Comrie, even if it took “an assassination,” requires time and careful deliberation.

Ms. Quinn has come under increasing pressure to fire Ms. Plummer and had been expected to suspend her yesterday.

Council Member Charles Barron of Brooklyn, who employs Ms. Plummer as his chief of staff, said he would fight in court any effort to fire or discipline her.
