The city’s Campaign Finance Board fined six former political candidates for a variety of violations during their 2005 campaigns, including filing late statements, accepting contributions over the approved limit, and improper spending after an election.
The board yesterday fined three City Council members: Simcha Felder $8,825, Vincent Gentile $1,375, and Rosie Mendez $200. The board also fined Rep. Anthony Weiner$4,900,a former candidate for president of Manhattan, Brian Ellner, $2,100, and a former candidate for the same position, Margarita Lopez, $350.
The board did not complete its hearing on the 2001 campaign of Council Member Miguel Martinez, who would have been ordered to repay $128,786 and face additional penalties had the board determined that he submitted fraudulent documents.
