‘The Giuliani Jitters’
With Rudy Giuliani very liberal on gay rights and partial-birth abortion, his chances of getting the Republican nomination to run for president is slim to none [Oped, “The Giuliani Jitters,” November 15, 2006]. I have a better idea. How about Rudy running for the Democratic nomination and giving the junior senator from New York a real contest with her millions war chest? It would give them a chance to really duke it out and give her some serious and credible opposition. He could even win.

‘Council Members Vote Themselves A Raise, Over Some Objections’
Concerning the City Council voting themselves a 25% pay raise, I find it a disgrace [New York, “Council Members Vote Themselves A Raise, Over Some Objections,” November 16, 2006]. I can’t get a pay raise that big on my job and I’ve been on the job for 27 years. Council Member Tony Avella, who was one of the few council members to vote against it, called it unethical and a few weeks ago said, “Anyone looking for a pay raise ought not be in public service.” Now that’s a politician that truly cares for us tax payers. Now add the fact that the City Council job is considered by many as being a part-time job. In addition, there are those who deserve a pay raise more, like police officers and firemen, who put their lives on the line everyday and deserve more money. The City Council does not.
