‘Is Hamas Copying Hezbollah?’
“Is Hamas Copying Hezbollah?” very ably described the wide range of dilemmas that Israel faces in protecting itself from the daily attacks by Hamas terrorists [Oped, March 6, 2008].
The article also portrayed “two sensible alternatives,” namely ” bludgeon the Hamas into submission … or sit down and talk with it.”
Unfortunately, however, it is impossible to negotiate with terror organizations, as they never honor their parts of the negotiation.
Secondly, any negotiated “cease fire” will simply allow Hamas to re-arm and become better prepared for another battle on another day. Thirdly, Hamas has become a puppet terror organization, with policy dictated by Iran, with whom negotiations are also not possible.
In net, Israel has no choice but to counter-attack until Hamas (Iran) ends its war against Israel.
At the current slow pace that the Israel government is fighting, this war will last for hundreds of years, and perhaps longer.
