The iconic cookie brand has unveiled three new flavors — Banana Pudding, Deep Fried, and Chicken & Waffles — hitting American store shelves next Monday.Of the three, Chicken & Waffles is easily turning the most heads. The cookie features a waffle-textured embossment and a dual-layered creme designed to capture the sweet-savory combination of fried chicken and maple syrup. Oreo is billing it as a “first-of-its-kind innovation” for the cookie aisle — and social media seems to largely agree that it delivers.Reaction online has been surprisingly enthusiastic. On X, one reviewer who claimed to have already sampled the new savory treat wrote, “I never thought CHICKEN & WAFFLES OREO cookies would be good, but… they’re actually great?!” Another wrote, “What’s not to like? It’s chicken. It’s waffles. Take two waffles, put a piece of fried chicken in the middle, and pour on the white gravy. Great comfort food sandwich.”But of course, there were those on the other side of the cookie. “Lmaooo deep fried and chicken & waffles oreos sound so nasty,” one naysayer wrote on X.Still, Oreo says it spent more than a year developing the three flavors, with the goal of tapping into what senior brand manager for Oreo Innovation Rohit Sakhamuri said is a “growing appetite for playful and unexpected flavor combinations.”“Delivering on complex flavors requires a rigorous, insights-driven R&D process,” Mr. Sakhamuri told the Daily Mail. He also noted that balancing unconventional taste profiles with the familiar Oreo experience was central to the process.The launch is tied to Oreo’s “Twist, Lick, Vote” campaign, which invites fans to vote for their favorite flavor between August 17 and October 12 — either by scanning the QR code on the packaging or visiting Oreo’s voting website. The winning flavor will be announced on October 13 and return to stores for a limited time in 2027.With a fan base that has already embraced everything from Birthday Cake to Red Velvet Oreos over the years, the brand has clearly built an appetite for the unexpected. Whether Chicken & Waffles ends up as a beloved staple or a novelty best forgotten, one thing is certain: Oreo knows how to get people talking.
