At the Art Dealers Association of America’s annual Art Show gala preview on Wednesday at the Armory, everything looked good: the art, the people, the champagne, the sushi, and the cupcakes.
Warm greetings from the president of Henry Street Settlement, Dale Burch, eased everyone into a cheerful night, and similar greetings continued down the aisles, past an Andreas Gursky at Matthew Marks, a Jean Dubuffet at Mitchell-Innes & Nash, a Max Ernst at Richard L. Feigen & Co., and several Lucio Fontana works at Sperone Westwater. Toward the back, guests encountered beautiful artwork created by youths in Henry Street Settlement programs.
Tickets to the event were sold at $150 to $2,000 each, with proceeds benefiting Henry Street Settlement, a nonprofit social service provider on the Lower East Side.
“This event supports our core programs: our senior center, our homeless shelters, our arts programs,” the executive director of the settlement, Verona Middleton-Jeter, said.
The show is open through Monday.
