Spyker Revives Its 2016 Supercar — and Makes It Uglier

At the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, in a small, under-visited booth, the Dutch supercar company Spyker was showing off its latest model, the C8 Preliator. It was neither as pretty nor as compelling as the earlier C8 Laviolette, but it was relatively handsome and a long-needed update. Courtesy of Ross AndersonSpyker said it would build 50 of them, priced from about $352,000, with a supercharged 4.2-liter Audi V-8 producing 525 horsepower. It was supposed to go on sale by the end of that year. But that came and went, and Spyker returned to the show with the same model the next year, this time saying it would be powered by a naturally aspirated Koenigsegg engine. That never happened either, and the company subsequently entered bankruptcy again.But in June 2026, Ukrainian businessman Volodymyr Nosov became a co-owner of Spyker, and the company promised to bring back the brand with a new model. It unveiled that car, the C8 Preliator XXV, at The Quail during this year’s Monterey Car Week. Spyker insists it’s a clean-sheet automobile, but look at the pictures of this car and the one I shot a literal decade ago, and that claim is somewhat hard to justify.2026 Spyker Preliator XXV. Courtesy of SpykerIt might now be far more garish, with heinous, bronze-looking rose-gold brightwork across the body and oversaturated Quail Green paint, but it looks almost exactly the same. Spyker says it uses an all-new aluminum spaceframe and a new hand-formed aluminum body — but again, this looks exactly the same, and the specs aren’t much different from the Geneva concept’s. Once again, it’s supposed to be powered by an Audi-sourced V-8 — now a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged engine producing a claimed 800 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque. That engine drives the rear wheels through a six-speed Graziano manual gearbox, and Spyker claims a dry weight of 3,362 pounds and a zero-to-62-mph time of 2.7 seconds. It’s also meant to have double-wishbone suspension with adjustable damping, hydraulic steering, carbon-ceramic brakes with six-piston calipers, and staggered 20- and 21-inch wheels. Spyker plans to build 25. But again how different is this car, actually? The interior looks basically the same too, but again, in a worse specification than the original car.Spyker Preliator XXV. Instead, it seems to be replaying the last one, from a decade ago, which ultimately ended in bankruptcy.
