The city has agreed to allow Fashion Week to remain in Bryant Park for the next two years, according to the event’s organizers.
“This event is so synonymous with Bryant Park — when you tell people you’re going to Bryant Park, they think you’re going to a fashion show,” an IMG Fashion vice president, Fern Mallis, said.
For the past few seasons, there had been talk that the shows would move elsewhere. In October, Mayor Bloomberg said Fashion Week was outgrowing the park and a new location was being sought.
Ms. Mallis said the park is ideal because there are no columns or buildings and it’s centrally located near media outlets. “The footprint is here,” she said.
Fashion Week has been held at Bryant Park since 1993 except for one season at Chelsea Piers that Ms. Mallis called “disastrous.”
During Fashion Week, the park steps throng with gawkers seeking celebrities and sponsors putting on shows. But some designers have decided to present their collections elsewhere in the city, including the New York Public Library.
The events are held twice a year. It takes 10 days to erect the tents, followed by eight days of shows and five days to dismantle it.
The city had no immediate comment.
