Though couture designer Zang Toi isn’t showing at the tents this season, his lavish gowns will be on the runway tomorrow night during a charity fashion show and fund-raiser for the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
The event, which will be held at the BoConcept shop on Madison Avenue, will feature a performance by singer Patti LaBelle and a live auction, conducted by Christie’s. Items up for bid include 10 sketches by the designer, a Trek bicycle signed by Lance Armstrong, and — most notably — the Zang Toi Experience package. With an opening bid of $3,800, that package comprises a $3,000 credit toward purchases at the Zang Toi showroom on West 57th Street; two front row seats for the Fall 2008 fashion show, and dinner for three cooked by the designer and served in his opulent Upper East Side apartment.
Mr. Toi decorated his home in a black-and-white take on Louis XVI style: The black-lacquer living room floor is dominated by a silver fox rug, and on the walls are two mirror image paintings of Marie Antoinette. Mr. Toi plans to cook a traditional Malaysian dinner, served on dishes custom-made for him by the Hungarian brand Herend. But if the winners don’t care for Malaysian cuisine, he’ll understand, he said: “I can cook Italian. I’ll leave it up to them.”
Tickets are $300 and $1,000; to purchase, call 646-336-8188, ext. 0, or visit a BoConcept store (www.boconcept.us).
