Known for its reliable, heavy-duty luggage, Tumi is edging into the women’s handbag market. The brand’s new shop on Madison Avenue is dedicated to a debut collection of leather and fabric bags designed by executive creative director David Chu. The retail space is a departure from other Tumi shops located in transit hubs such as Rockefeller Center and Grand Central Terminal. Though some luggage is included, the focus is on accessories. The nylon Voyager collection ($75 to $495) aims for a sporty traveler.

A series of sophisticated shapes are made in strong fabrics and prints such as charcoal pinstripes, paisley, herringbone, and a cashmere-wool blend (starting at $495). Structured leather bags have clean lines and limited hardware ($595 to $695). In store now are fall pieces for sale, as well as spring bags available for pre-order.
